Smith Leads the Field After Cardinal Spring Classic First Round

HAGERSTOWN, Md.  – The Catholic women's golf team started off the weekend at the Cardinal Spring Classic in the first round on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals finished with a team score of 335 during the afternoon to sit in a tie for second place heading into Sunday.

Brooke Smith topped the leaderboard during the round, finishing with a 76 (+4) to hold a one shot lead heading into the second round. She had a stretch on holes two through nine where she parred eight consecutive holes and finished her round with a pair of birdies. 

The next best finish during the round for Catholic came from Gabi Courtney who finished with an 81 to be sitting in a tie for sixth. She tallied nine pars and two birdies during her round. Meghan Mullen also finished in a top 15 spot as she was tied for 12th, shooting an 88, where she tallied six pars and a birdie.

Lauren Wright and Mary McGuire also competed for the Cardinals and each shot a 90. Harper Capili led the Catholic 'B' during the round by shooting an 88 and Isabelle Seratch also broke 90 with an 89 during her round.

The Cardinals will finish the Cardinal Spring Classic and celebrate Senior Day on Sunday, April 12 at the Black Rock Golf Course.
