ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – The Catholic women's golf team looked to close out its first match in the spring with a win on Sunday afternoon after leading the field following the first day at the McDaniel Spring Invitational. The Cardinals shaved a stroke off their first round score, shooting a 342 as a team, to finish 24 strokes better than the next team, taking first place on the leader board.
Lauren Wright and
Gabi Courtney were the two best finishers for the Cardinals among the individuals, both finishing in a tie for third with a 168 over the two rounds. Wright finished two shots better than her first round score, shooting an 83, while recording four pars and three birdies on the back nine to finish one under par on holes 10-18. Courtney shot an 87 on the day, including parring five out of the last six holes on the back nine.
Also finishing in the top 10 was
Brooke Smith, who placed in a tie for eighth on the leader board after shooting an 86 on Sunday to finish at 173 over the two rounds. Overall in her second round, Smith totaled five pars and two birdies.
Mary McGuire was the next best finisher for Catholic as she placed in a tie for 12th, taking seven strokes off her first round score by shooting an 86.
Meghan Mullen also finished in the top 20 by shooting a 95 on Sunday to finish with a 185 over the two rounds. She picked up three pars and a birdie in her second round.
Harper Capilli competed on the Catholic 'B' team and finished in a tie for 11th in the standings after shooting an 89 with five pars and two birdies.
Isabelle Seratch also competed on the 'B' team and shaved four strokes off her first round score with a 91.
The next match for the Cardinals will take place on Tuesday, March 31 at the Alvernia Spring Invitational at LedgeRock Golf Club.
