WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University women's lacrosse junior Ally Criscuolo scored with 3:37 left in overtime while junior Nanci Hernandez made a season-high 12 saves as the 14th-ranked Cardinals posted a 10-9 win over No. 2 Franklin & Marshall Wednesday in the first game at the new Carlini Field.

The Cardinals (4-2) posted their second win in the last three meetings against the Diplomats by winning nine of the final 12 draw controls and overcoming a season-high 27 turnovers.

Each of the last three meetings between the two teams has been decided by one goal, including the last two at Catholic in overtime. Two years ago, the 17th-ranked Cardinals defeated the fourth-ranked Diplomats, 8-7 in overtime at Cardinal Stadium on Apr. 13, 2017.

With two goals, Criscuolo was one of four players who tallied multi-goal games for Catholic, including junior Holly Regan who had two goals and one assist.

Regan's second gave the Cardinals an 8-7 lead with 8:17 remaining in the second half and was part of a 6-1 run by the Cardinals that erased a 6-3 deficit and gave them a 9-7 lead.

After senior Megan Ellis gave Catholic a two-goal advantage, Franklin & Marshall (5-2) scored two goals in just 35 seconds to tie the game at 9-9, the last of which was an open net free position goal with 3:48 to play as Hernandez was whistled for the foul and placed behind.

Both teams had two possessions in the closing minutes with the Diplomats holding for the last shot, but junior Alyssa Bishop was able to cause a turnover with 10 seconds left and senior Katie Sherry was able to pick up the ground ball to send the game into overtime.

In sudden victory, Catholic won the opening draw, but Franklin & Marshall goalie Julia McKay forced one of her two caused turnovers to give the Diplomats a chance at the game-clinching tally. However, the Cardinals were able to once again come up with the forced turnover, this time by senior Jess Lyons, before Bishop scooped up her third ground ball of the game to start the clear.

Once inside the attacking zone, Criscuolo was fouled inside the arc, leading to her first free position attempt of the game which she buried into the top right corner over the shoulder of McKay for her third career game-winning goal.

Hernandez totaled seven of her 12 saves in the second half while senior Erin Dugan totaled five ground balls, six draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Catholic opens Landmark Conference play on Saturday when its welcomes Elizabethtown to Carlini Field for a 1 p.m., start. The Cardinals have won 31-straight conference games dating back to Apr. 20, 2013.
