SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Catholic University football senior Colin McNulty had four catches for 51 yards and two touchdowns as the Cardinals posted 312 yards of total offense in a 49-21 road loss to Springfield Saturday at Stagg Field.

Catholic (0-7, 0-4 NEWMAC) threw for a season-high 261 yards as junior Brady Berger completed 21-of-34 passes and two touchdowns. Freshman running back Andrew Comeau had a three-yard touchdown pass to McNulty with 7:23 left in the first quarter to give the Cardinals an early 7-0 lead after they forced a fumble on the Pride's opening possession.

However, Springfield (5-3, 4-1 NEWMAC) scored on touchdown runs by Patrick Ladas on its next two possessions before returning a blocked punt 22 yards with 11 seconds remaining in the first half to take a 21-7 halftime lead.

After driving 56 yards on 11 plays for their opening touchown, the Cardinals were limited to just 63 yards on 12 plays over their next four possessions.

The Pride increased their lead to 28-7 on a 61-yard touchdown run to begin the second half, but Catholic answered right back, driving 71 yards on eight plays before Berger found McNulty from one-yard out to cut Springfield's lead in half with 9:16 to play in the third quarter.

The Cardinals maintained their two score deficit into the fourth quarter before the Pride scored on three consecutive possessions to take a 49-14 lead with 3:05 remaining.

Catholic closed the scoring with 1:00 to play when Berger connected with sophomore Preston Jeffrey for a 65-yard touchdown strike that capped a 90-yard drive for the Cardinals, their longest of the season. It was also the Cardinals' second-longest play from scrimmage this season behind a 74-yard touchdown pass from freshman Evan O'Donnell to junior Trey Carson versus MIT.

Comeau finished with 10 carries for 47 yards rusing and seven catches for 16 yards receiving.

Junior Jake Ballard led the defense with 13 tackles while sophomore Gabe Aparicio added 12.

Catholic returns home to face Norwich in its final home game of the 2019 season next Saturday, Nov. 2 on Senior Day. Prior to the game, the team will honor its seven seniors: McNulty, Alejandro Ros, Rob Levin, Komani Turner, Jake O'Donoghue, John Graham and Gavin Hurlbut.
