Lewis, Doody Earn Catholic Back-to-Back Walkoff Wins Over Juniata

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America baseball team won both games of its Landmark doubleheader to Juniata College in walkoff fashion. Junior Bailey Lewis hit an 11th inning 2-RBI double for a 5-4 victory in game one followed by a 2-run walkoff double from rookie Michael Doody in game two.

In valiant efforts, Lewis batted in sophomore Christian Jones and rookie Andre Perez in the first game while Doody drove in Perez and fellow freshman Cole Campbell in game two for the winning runs.

The Cardinals cracked 14 hits over the two games with two homeruns from senior Jake Crist, who drove in four RBIs on the day. His first RBI of the day came on solo homer in the first inning to tie the game at one run a piece.

Juniata answered with two in the top of the third but a sacrifice fly from senior Brennan Cotter to score his classmate Danny O'Hagan followed by an RBI single from Crist to drive in junior Ryan Tracy to equalize the game in the bottom of the inning.

Neither team converted another run, sending the league matchup into extra innings. The Eagles saw a glimpse of hope when they came home in the top of the 11th inning but Lewis' heroic double in the bottom half led the Cardinals to the victory.

Juniata came out strong in game two and took 5-1 advantage through 4.5 innings.

Crist's crushed his second homer of the day in the bottom of the fifth to scored fellow senior Jack Hennessy and himself, starting the Cardinals on a five-run rally.

Tracy batted in O'Hagan to bring the Catholic within one run of the victory and the Cardinals charged the diamond in the bottom of the seven when Campbell reached the plate on Doody's textbook shot to the gap in right center.

On the mound, the Cardinals tossed out 20 batters over both games. Rookie Ethan Risse recorded six Ks in seven innings of game one before his classmate Jack Ropelewski struck out four in 1.2 innings to record the win.

In game two, junior Mason Belcher made the start and threw an impressive seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings while sophomore Eric Moore threw three batters out for his first win of the year.

The Cardinals and Eagles will complete the three-game Landmark series with a nine-inning game on Sunday, April 22. First pitch is slated for noon.
