No. 19 Cardinals Fall to No. 11 Generals, 13-9

Box Score

WASHINGTON - No. 19 The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team fell 13-9 to No. 11 Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals outscored the Generals 6-4 in the final 30 minutes with a pair of goals from both senior Megan Ellis and freshman Anna Maupin, but the six-goal (9-3) gap from the opening half was too large to close.

Despite the loss, Catholic sophomore Nanci Hernandez made a career-high 14 saves and scooped up three ground balls.

Ellis along with sophomore Katie Bradbury freshman Sydney Hartman each notched first-half goals for Catholic.

Bradbury ripped the Cardinals' first goal of the event into the cage on an unassisted shot in the ninth minute of play. Hartman collected her first career point on a free position opportunity in the 12th minute.

With under five minutes to play in the half, Ellis completed a shot off a pass from freshman Kate Behlen to snap a Washington & Lee five-goal run. Ellis then opened the second half with an unassisted goal starting Catholic on a 4-0 run.

Sophomore Nicole DiFabio scored next and her classmate Holly Regan stepped up with back-to-back assists on goals from Ellis and Maupin.

Catholic scored the finals two goals of the nationally ranked matchup with unassisted points from Maupin and junior Jessica Lyons.

Along with her two goals, Maupin won four draw controls and her fellow rookie Emily Bynoe won two.

Up next, the Cardinals travel to Lancaster, Pa., to take on the Diplomats of Franklin & Marshall at 5:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 21.
