Cardinals Move to 11-0 With 15-5 Triumph Over Wilkes

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Catholic University of America baseball team wraps up its 2018 spring break trip with a 15-5 victory over Wilkes College to advance its overall season record to 11-0.

Senior Brennan Cotter recorded four RBIs as he brought in classmates Danny O'Hagan and Jack Hennessy in the first inning along with Hennessy and junior Ryan Tracy in the sixth inning. Cotter came home in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from rookie Michael Doody, who hit 2-of-4 throughout the game.

With two outs and junior Bailey Lewis on first base in the third inning, sophomore Christian Jones ripped a two-RBI homerun over the left field fence. Later in the inning senior Danny O'Hagan drove in Hennessy and Tracy to bring Catholic's total to six runs.

The Cardinals turnout as six-run sixth inning with RBIs from Lewis, Crist and Cotter and runs from senior Anthony Ferlise, Doody, Jones, Hennessy, Tracy and Crist to gain a 12-3 lead over the Colonels.

With the victory in sight, Doody came home on a wild pitch in the seventh inning before sophomore Nolan Lundholm drove in Billy Duke in with a triple in the ninth. Lundholm crossed the plate for Catholic final run of the event on groundout from rookie Tighe Watson.

Catholic senior Jon Mierzwa started on the mound for Catholic throwing six strikeouts in four innings. Senior Sean Carroll registered the win with two Ks in two innings. Sophomore Eric Moore pitched the seventh and eighth innings and senior Collin Brown closed out the game for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals fly north and travel to Salisbury University on Wednesday, March 14. First pitch against the Sea Gulls is slated for 3:30 p.m.
