Box Score Huntingdon, Pa. - The Catholic University of America women’s basketball team fell to No. 20 Juniata College, 59-42, in a Landmark Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Catholic sophomore Megan Stafford pulled down a team-high seven rebounds while contributing eight points, one block and one steal for the Cardinals. Fellow Sophomore Mollie Reynolds also collected eight points while she registered two steals and an assist and senior Briana Bull knocked down team-high 14 points and three steals.
The nationally-ranked Eagles got off the ground quickly with a 6-0 run in the opening three minutes. Bull and Reynolds made back-to-back field goals and Stafford sunk a foul shot for five unanswered Catholic points to come within one of Juniata by the four-minute mark. Neither team would score for next minute and a half before Juniata rolled out a 12-4 run to finish the first quarter with a significant lead (18-9).
The Cardinals used the first six minute of the second quarter to close the gap and get within three points of the Eagles (21-18), but Juniata continued to dominate its home court to take a 10-point lead (29-19) the at halftime break.
Catholic regained momentum in the third period as Bull (six points), Reynolds (four points) and Stafford (three points) helped the Cardinals outscore the Eagles 13-12 over 10-minutes.
With a nine-point advantage (41-32) and 10-minute to play on No. 20 Juniata drove home the victory by outscoring Catholic 18-10.
Catholic, now 13 overall and 4-4 in the Landmark, returns to the nation’s capital to host Goucher College in a midweek game, Wednesday January 31 at 7 p.m.
