Box Score Huntingdon, Pa. - The Catholic University of America baseball team took down the Juniata College Eagles, 25-5 on Sunday afternoon to advance its Landmark Conference record to 12-5.
Catholic had 14 players come across the plate as 12 Cardinals registered at least one RBI. Senior Paul Burmester recorded three hits in four appearances with five RBIs and three runs. Sophomore Bailey Lewis drove in five RBIs himself while batting 2-of-3 with two runs.
Burmester, Lewis and senior Wyatt Schmidt each sent the ball over the fence of Langdon-Goodale Field. Lewis crushed a three-run homer in the second inning to bring home junior Brennan Cotter and Burmester.
In the fourth inning, Burmester launched a grand slam over the left field wall to scored juniors Jake Crist, Jack Hennessy and Danny O'Hagan. With two outs on the board in the fifth inning, Schmidt pinch-hit for a solo homer and Catholic's 18th run of the event.
Three Cardinal rookie hits doubles in the ninth inning of the conference showdown. Jeff Guile started with a leadoff double and came home on a two-base RBI from Jack Ropelewski. Later in the inning, Nolan Lundholm hit for two bases before coming home on a single from Guile.
O'Hagan recorded a double of his own in the third inning and came across the plate on a right field single from Crist. Crist registered his second RBI of the day in the fourth when he patiently took a bases-loaded walk to score sophomore Ryan Tracy.
Fellow sophomore Mason Belcher started on the rubber to earn his fourth win of the season. Belcher tossed three strikeouts in five innings and was relieved by senior Karan Sinha who caught two Eagles looking in the sixth inning. Sophomore Colin Cunningham pitched the seventh while freshman Eric Moore and senior Jonah Jimenez threw in the last two innings, respectively.
Catholic will travel to Marymount University on Tuesday, April 25 to take on the Saints at 1:30 p.m.
