WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America football teamed evened its record at 4-4 overall and earned a New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win over Norwich, 10-7, on Senior Day, Homecoming and Cardinal Alumni Weekend.

Catholic won the defensive battle as the Cardinals boasted five players with double-digit tackles. Senior linebacker Nick Della Jacono led the way with a game-high 15 stops and added a forced fumble.

Norwich earned the time of possession battle by 15 minutes, but the defensive unit forced two turnovers thanks to an interception by junior safety Joe Nacci and ceded just one touchdown.

The rookie running back trio of Chance LeGrand, Pedro Garcia and Trey Carson took care of the rest as they combined for 22 rushes, 160 yards and a score.

The two teams were able to hold each other off the scoreboard in the first half as Catholic came up with a goal line turnover as Della Jacono forced it out on the one-yard line and Catholic recovered. It was Norwich who scored first with a touchdown midway through the third.

The Cardinals were able to get on the board on the next drive however as sophomore kicker Pearce Bartlett drilled home a 33-yarder.

Catholic was able to force a three-and-out on the Cadets' second drive of the fourth quarter to get prime field position on the Norwich 42-yard line.

Carson ripped off a 21-yard run three plays into the drive and on the next play Garcia ran in from seven yards out to give Catholic their first lead of the day.

Norwich missed a field goal on its next drive and despite getting the ball back with 1:37 left, the Cardinal defense was able to stand tall and force a turnover on downs with just 58 seconds left to earn the win.

Seniors Patrick Vidal, Luke Kern and Greg Mayer all had double-digit tackles while Vidal added a sack and three tackles for loss in a superb defensive effort.

Sophomore quarterback Alejandro Ros completed 15-of-25 passes for 154 yards and found junior Andrew Lunarola three times for 55 yards and freshman Onani Moore five times for 32 yards.

With four wins this season, Catholic has eclipsed the three-win mark for the first time in four seasons as well as multiple conference wins in that same span.
