Box Score WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's soccer team earned its sixth straight win as they downed the University of Mary Washington, 2-1, at CUA Soccer Field on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the Cardinals remain undefeated in 2016 at 6-0, while the Eagles drop to 4-3-1 in the season.
Catholic outshot Mary Washington 19-5 throughout the contest, but it was the Eagles that found their way to the scoreboard first. With seven and a half minutes remaining in the first half Eagle's forward Allye Reynolds beat the Catholic back line to an open shot on goal. The Eagles led 1-0 when the clock reached 45-minutes.
After the break, the Cardinals maintained the majority of possession, taking 10 shots in the second half while sophomore goalkeeper Christina Peyroux and the Catholic defense held the Eagles to zero shots.
Catholic's first score came in the 67th minute, as sophomore Taylor Pisk dribbled down the center of the pitch and booted a shot over the keepers head from 30-yards away.
The Cardinals avoided extra time and captured the victory just seven minutes later. Junior Andrea Jablonskyj took her opportunity to cross the ball into the 6-yard box to freshman Grace Boras. Boras one-touched the ball to junior Lindsay Aleman who fired it inside net for her 47th career goal.
Aleman took five shots during the midweek contest and junior Alexa Povelaitis took four.
The Cardinals open Landmark Conference play, on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they travel to Selinsgrove, Pa., to take on the Susquehanna University River Hawks at 1 p.m.
