WASHINGTON – It's now a three-peat for The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team as they downed Scranton on Saturday afternoon, 19-12, to earn the Landmark Conference Championship. It is the Cardinals' eighth league crown and trip to the NCAA Tournament in the past nine seasons.

The Cards never trailed in the game and took a 10-4 lead into the half. Scranton was able to close within five with just over three minutes left, but Catholic scored three of the next four goals to secure its Landmark title.

Junior Tournament MVP Rachel Meyer was a defensive force for head coach Meghan McDonogh, making life difficult for the Royals offense.  She caused two turnovers in the game while picking up a ground ball and a draw control win.

Offensively, junior Anna Stumme led all players with five goals, including the first of the game. Sophomore Nicolette Crisalli was just behind with four scores of her own.

Both juniors Laura Dunn and Clair Schmitzer posted all-around games. Dunn finished with three goals and four assists, and added four ground balls. Schmitzer boasted a five-point day with a goal and four assists, adding three ground balls, a draw control win and two forced turnovers.

The Cardinals won the turnover battle (19-24) and ground ball advantage (34-23), while outshooting Scranton, 35-27.

Catholic now awaits the NCAA Division III Selection Show to find out its opponent in the 2016 Women's Lacrosse Tournament. Last season, the Cardinals reached the Regional Finals. Check back on CUAcardinals.com for info on the selection show as it becomes available.
