Cardinals Down Gophers, 18-3, at Cardinal Stadium

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team remains undefeated, 4-0, in the Landmark Conference after downing Goucher College, 18-3, on Wednesday evening.

The Cardinals outshot the Gophers 46-15 during the midweek event while putting a season high 34 shots on target. Additionally, Catholic went 15-for-15 on clear attempts, 2-for-3 on free position opportunities, and caused 10 total turnovers.

Twelve women connected the ball with the back of the net for Catholic's final tally of 18 goals. The Cardinals leading goal scorer, sophomore Nicolette Crisalli, led the team with four goals to bring her season total to 37. Junior Laura Dunn, who leads the Cards in points (44), sent two shots into the cage with three assists while junior Clair Schmitzer added one goal and three assists.

Juniors Jenna Van Middelem and Ana Brandenburg each sent two shots between the pipes during the contest. Fellow juniors Anna Stumme, Sarah Washington, Emily Merkel, and Alexis Bosilovic each scored once along with freshmen Jessica Lyons, Molly Kelly and Megan Ellis. Junior Rachel Meyer earned her first career point when she assisted Crisalli's second goal of the game after a successful clear.

Catholic collectively picked up a season-high 39 ground balls with Bosilovic (7), Brandenburg (6), and Stumme (5) dominating the midfield. The Cards won 20-of-22 draw controls with junior draw control specialist Allie Bond winning 12.

Three Catholic goalies spilt time between the pipes, freshman Christina De Cesaris made seven saves for her fifth win of 2016. Senior Brittnee Frizol made one save while freshman Gabby Cooper finished out the final 12 minutes of the game guarding the Cardinal's cage.

The Cardinals look to improve their Landmark record as they head to Kings Point, N.Y., to take on the Mariners of Merchant Marine on Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m.
