WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America women's lacrosse team saw seven goals scorers in the their home opener, a 18-10 victory over Rowan University of Wednesday night. 

Junior Clair Schmitzer was an unstoppable force in the midfield for Catholic as she grabbed two ground balls and three draw controls. Additionally, Schmitzer put three assists in the books and caused two turnovers. Freshman Erin Dugan grabbed six draw controls and caused three turnovers for CUA, while junior Allie Bond won a career-high 13 draw controls.

Junior Nicolette Crisalli put a season-high five shots between the pipes, while junior Laura Dunn sent the ball into the cage four times. Junior Ana Brandenburg saw the back of the net with three shots, and juniors Anna Stumme and Alexis Bosilovic each had a pair. Fellow junior Jenna Van Middelem and rookie Jessica Lyons each scored one goal for the Cardinals in the victory.

The CUA win was a collaborative team effort as the Cardinals won 23-of-30 draw controls, caused 14 turnovers and picked up 23 ground balls. The Cardinals also capitalized on two of their three free position shots (Crisalli, Lyons).

Three Cardinals saw time between the posts with senior Brittnee Frizol as the starting goalie for Catholic. Freshman Christina De Cesaris notched a season-high 10 saves and fellow freshman Gabby Cooper made her first career appearance.

The Cardinals return to action when they take on No. 1 SUNY Cortland on Saturday, March 13 in Cortland, N.Y., at 12 p.m.
