Box Score WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America field hockey team went toe-to-toe with No. 4 team in the country on Wednesday night, battling at Salisbury. The Cardinals put forth a strong defensive effort, but so did the Seagulls as they won, 2-0.
Senior goalkeeper Analisa Scott kept Catholic in the game all night, stopping a season-high 12 shots, three shy of her career-best.
The Cardinals kept the Seagulls off the board for the entire first half, but Salisbury's offense struck twice in the in first 11 minutes of the second to take control for good.
Catholic got three shots on the cage, two from junior Kelly Cousoulis and one from Rachel Day, but Salisbury answered with 17 of their own and 29 shots total. The Seagulls also owned the penalty corner advantage, 17-4.
All three of Catholic's losses this season have come against nonconference, top-20 opponents.
The Cards return to Landmark Conference play this Saturday as they wrap up a three-game road trip at Elizabethtown on Saturday. It is a rematch of last season's league championship.
