Box Score Gettysburg, Pa. - The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team dropped their NCAA Championship Tournament first round game 19-3 to No. 2 Gettysburg on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cardinals earned a bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament after being the first fourth-seeded team in the Landmark Conference to upset in the semi final and final game to become conference champions.
The Cards won the first face off of the day, with Matt Brennan scooping up the groundball, against the No. 2 team in the nation. Unable to convert a goal on the play the Bullets took off with the score with four goals in the first quarter.
Gettysburg kept a strong momentum while opening the second quarter with five additional unanswered goals for a 9-0 lead over Catholic. The Cardinals saw their first goal of the game eight minutes into the second quarter when Liam Clancy took an unassisted shot that landed in the back of the cage.
The Cards gave up two more before Brian Keith took his unassisted chance that found the back of the net for Catholic's second goal of the NCAA tournament. Gettysburg notched one more before the halftime intermission giving them a 12-2 lead over CUA.
The Bullets began the second half with four unanswered to advance their lead to 16-2. With just under 2:30 to play in the third quarter CUA's Tim Keith passed the ball to Dylan Neville who notched Catholic's third and finals goal of the event.
Gettysburg put three additional goals in the cage in the fourth quarter to advance to the NCAA Championship Tournament second round with a 19-3 victory over Catholic. Gettysburg extends their 2015 record to 18-0.
Catholic's Matt Brennan dominated on the face offs, winning 16 of 26. Brian Keith led the offense with four shots while Kevin Cardillo made nine saves between the pipes. Jack Connelly made an appearance in goal during the final minutes of the national championship playoff game.
The Cardinals wrap up their historical season with an 11-6 record and the title of Landmark Conference Champions.
