Football Falls at Shenandoah, 34-17

Box Score

Winchester, Va. – Both teams amassed 446 yards of total offense on the gridiron Saturday, but The Catholic University of America football team was topped at Shenandoah, 34-17. The Cardinals closed to within four in the third quarter, but the Hornets registered two 50-plus yard touchdowns late to clinch the game.

The CUA offense was able to move the ball, but turnovers ended several strong drives while Shenandoah was able to take advantage of the Cardinal miscues.

Senior quarterback T.J. Tutone went over 300 yards passing for the fifth time in six games this season, finding Lucas Morley a career-tying 13 times for 119 yards and touchdown.

The Cards were also able to move the ball on the ground, totaling 135 yards as junior running back Matt Perno went 103 yards rushing on 19 carries.

The Cardinals struck first in the game, kicking a field goal by Peter Rosa on their first possession, but Shenandoah quickly answered with two touchdowns to take a 14-3 lead in the first quarter.

Tutone found Morley for an 11-yard score on the next drive, but once again Shenandoah answered, taking a 21-10 lead into the half.

Catholic was able to close the gap however, making it a four-point game after a 12-yard touchdown pass from Tutone to junior slot man Matt McMahon just four minutes into the second half.

The Shenandoah defense was able to clamp down from there as the held the Cards off the scoreboard and added a 53-yard touchdown completion at the end of the third and a 65-yard rushing score with three minutes left to close the game.

Catholic will look to move back above .500 and even its ODAC record next weekend at Cardinal Stadium against Emory & Henry at 1 p.m., as CUA celebrates Homecoming.
