WASHINGTON- The Catholic
University of America women's soccer team came up scoreless against
the Mustangs of Stevenson University on Wednesday, as the game
ended in a draw after two overtimes in Owings Mills, Md.
The Cardinals dominated offensively in the first
half, sending five shots to their opponent's goal in comparison to
the Mustang's two. Both of Stevenson's shots were saved by starting
Catholic goalie, junior Lexi Halperin.
Making her seventh start for CUA, Halperin went on to snag four
shots in the second half, shutting out the Mustangs in the total
110:00 minutes.
The second half brought five more shots for the
Cards, but still no goals for either team. The game went into its
first ten-minute overtime scoreless, and produced one corner kick
for the Mustangs. The second overtime came and went with one
Catholic corner, as neither team managed to connect into the goal.
The score read 0-0, as the Cardinals left the field with their
second tie of the season.
While none of the shots made their way into
the net, several Lady Cards stood out offensively. Junior Kirsten
Wosleger took three shots, with two shots on goal in regulation
time. Senior Kaylre Greaves
and sophomore Alyssa Fiore both
made two shots in Mustang territory.
Catholic now holds a 5-0-2 record, and will host
Salisbury on Saturday, September 20, at 3:30 p.m. on the CUA Soccer
Field.
Notes: J.P. Sousa coached his
200th game tonight. The Cardinals entered the contest ranked
No. 7 in the Mid-Atlantic Region by the NSCAA.
