Cardinals Take Down Scranton, 18-6

Box Score

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's lacrosse team bounced back from a tough midweek loss to roll past Scranton 18-6 on Saturday afternoon for their second Landmark Conference victory.

Catholic was led by Lindsay Brophy and Madeline Wilson who each scored four times, while Clair Schmitzer and Jenna Van Middelem also recorded hat tricks with three goals each.

Van Middelem struck first for Catholic as Madeline Nowakowski dished out her first career assist. Scranton's Emily Goss found the back of the net for the first visitor goal at 20:30. Schmitzer answered back less than a minute later with an unassisted score.

After Goss scored again for the Royals at 18:03, Schmitzer did the same at 14:50 on a free position shot which sparked an 8-2 run for the Cardinals to end the first half.

CUA took an 11-4 lead at halftime as Wilson scored three time including with less than one second left off of a Caroline DiBartolomeo assist.

The Cardinals continued to assert their offensive prowess in the second half, outscoring the Royals 7-2 in the final 30 minutes of action.

Anna Brandenburg set up Laura Dunn at 18:04 for a 14-5 lead. Dunn then paid it forward a few minutes later, finsing Anna Stumme for her 12th goal of the year.

Yasmeen Ajdari picked up nine saves in the win to go with three ground balls and a caused turnover.

Tori Neill forced two turnovers and scooped up three ground balls as the Catholic defense held an opponent to fewer than 10 goals for the fifth time this season.

Nowakowski recorded a game-high five ground balls as the Cardinals doubled up the Royals in that category, 28-14.

For the game, CUA was successful on all 11 of its clear attempts, while the Royals were 10 of 18.

The Cardinals return to action this Wednesday, April 9 when they welcome Goucher College to Cardinal Stadium for another Landmark Conference tilt schedules to start at 4:00 p.m.
