Bosilovic Leads Catholic at Salisbury

WASHINGTON - Salisbury used eight unanswered goals in the first half to help take a 17-9 win over the visiting Cardinals on Saturday, March 1.

Alexis Bosilovic led the Cardinals with three goals and an assist in addition to seven draw controls in the circle.

The Sea Gulls struck first with a goal at 24:48 from Bethany Baer. Catholic answered back as Clair Schmitzer scored her fourth goal of the season to tie it up at 1-1 with 21:06 on the clock.

From that point, the defending National Champions scored eight straight goals in 14 minutes to take a 9-1 lead.

Bosilovic found the back of the net at 3:59 and again with 38 seconds left before halftime for CUA to make the score 10-3.

Junior attacker Madeline Wilson opened up the second half scoring for the Cardinals, connecting on a free position shot at 25:30.

The Salisbury offense then rattled off four more goals to push the lead to 14-4 with 20:40 on the clock.

For the next 20 minutes, Catholic outscored the Sea Gulls 5-3. Caroline DiBartolomeo scored an unassisted goal, as did Bosilovic for her third goal of the game.

Schmitzer recorded her second goal of the game to close the gap to 15-7 at 6:40 on a free position shot. Jenna Van Middelem and Theresa Ciletti scored the final two goals for Catholic who drops to 1-1 on the season as Salisbury moves to 3-0.

Yasmeen Ajdari and Tricia Pehnke combined for 12 saves, as the duo split time in goal and each recorded six saves.

In the circle, the teams were even at 14 draw controls apiece. Bosilovic led all players with her seven draw controls for the game.

Defnsively, the Cardinals forced 13 Sea Gull turnovers with Victoria Neill and DiBartolomeo leading the effort with two caused turnovers each. Salisbury held the advantage in groundballs at 21-14.

Catholic will return to action as they host their home-opener next Sunday, March 9 against Penn St. Abington at 1:00 p.m. The Nittany Lions (0-0) will play their first game on Tuesday, March 4 against Bryn Mawr.
