Box Score Ewing, N.J. – Landmark Conference Player of the Year senior Maura Campbell and junior Keira McGovern each scored goals to secure the Catholic University Cardinals third round seat at the 2014 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships in Ewing, N.J., on the campus of The College of New Jersey.
With the 2-0 win over Messiah College, the Cardinals improve to 16-3 on the year, as Messiah concludes its season with a record of 15-7.
CUA's Campbell scored her eighth goal of the season in the ninth minute of the first half, cashing in on a penalty corner entered by Taylor Elliott.
Catholic's McGovern secured the NCAA second round victory, when she recovered her own shot for a goal in 64th minute for her fourth goal of the season.
Analisa Scott made four saves to protect the win and record her 15th win of season for the Cardinals.
Collectively, CUA took 11 shots (six on goal), while Messiah went for nine shots (four on goal).
Catholic continues their NCAA run with a 1:00 p.m. matchup against The College of New Jersey host on Sunday, November 16. TCNJ is ranked No.4 in the NFCHA and defeated SUNY New Paltz 4-0 prior to the Cards victory. The Lions erupted for four goals in a span of 10:11 in the second half to account for all of the scoring against the Hawks.
