Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – CUA had its hands full with No. 5
Gettysburg on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Bullets by a
score of 22-8. After trailing 2-1 early in the game, the Cards saw
Gettysburg score the next 12 goals to open up a commanding 14-1
advantage. Lindsay Brophy and Nicole Laitner scored two goals
apiece for CUA, while Erin Fowler tallied a pair of assists.
Loren Pruitt and Amanda Borucki gave the home team a 2-0 lead in
the opening 2:08 of the game, before Laitner got the Cards on the
board at the 27:01 mark to make it a 2-1 contest.
From there, the Bullets scored 12 straight goals in a span of
16:25 to open up a 14-1 advantage with 9:02 on the first half
clock.
Katie Miller was able to put an end to the Gettysburg run when she
found the back of the net with 7:38 to play in the half.
The teams then traded scores, with Brophy netting her 44th goal of
the season to send the game into halftime, with CUA down by 12.
The Bullets scored the first two goals after intermission to
extend to a 17-3 lead, before Laitner got on the board for the
second time with an unassisted goal.
Following a Mandy Buell goal, Brophy found the back of the net
with 22:42 on the clock for the Cardinals fifth score of the
afternoon.
With less than 10 minutes to play, CUA went on a 3-0 run, with
Fowler, Theresa Ciletti and Meghan O'Brien all scoring in a
span of just 2:19 to make it a 20-8 game.
Gettysburg scored the final two goals however, to earn its 13th
win of the season.
Caroline Scalamandre, Alexis Martin and Tricia Pehnke led CUA with
two ground balls apiece, while Scalamandre was the team leader in
draw controls with seven.
Four different Bullets scored three goals, while five players
registered multiple assists.
CUA now hosts No. 11 and unbeaten Susquehanna on Saturday
afternoon at 1 p.m. inside Cardinal Stadium. The two teams are both
3-0 in the Landmark Conference, and the winner will clinch the top
seed in next month's conference tourney.
