ALLENTOWN, Pa. – CUA saw its three-game win streak come to an end on Thursday afternoon when the Cardinals fell to No. 4 Cortland State 18-9 on the campus of Muhlenberg College. CUA pulled to within 12-7 with 19:32 remaining, before the Red Dragons went on a 6-0 run to pull away. Caroline DiBartolomeo and Katie Miller combined for seven of the Cards nine goals.

Cortland grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first 3:35. Miller got CUA on the board soon after though, finding the back of the net at the 25:31 mark to make it 2-1.

DiBartolomeo then tied the score with a free position goal, with 23:57 remaining in the opening half.

The Red Dragons came back with goals by Erica Geremia, Gina Campese and Marilyn Farrell in a span of 2:41 to go in front 5-2, with exactly 18 minutes to play before intermission.

Two more scores by Cortland State put CUA in a 7-2 hole, but Miller netted her second goal of the afternoon at the 7:46 mark to pull CUA within four.

DiBartolomeo followed with her second goal of the game to make it a three-goal affair, but the Red Dragons closed the half on a 3-0 run to grab a 10-4 advantage at halftime.

Early in the 2nd, DiBartolomeo scored a free position goal and the Cards were down only five.

Two straight scores by Cortland State quickly made the spread seven, but DiBartolomeo and Miller netted back-to-back goals in 2:51, and once again CUA was within five.

The Red Dragons pulled away from there though, scoring six straight to open up an 18-7 advantage with 4:04 to play.

Following a yellow card on Cortland State, Theresa Ciletti scored with 2:48 on the clock for CUA's eighth goal of the afternoon.

Lindsay Brophy got on the board for the first time when she scored with just over a minute remaining, setting the final margin at nine.

Brophy and Alexis Martin led CUA with three draw controls apiece, while Kelly Neligan and Ciletti finished with five ground balls. Neligan also shared top honors with Meghan O'Brien in caused turnovers, forcing two apiece.

In goal, Tricia Pehnke made seven saves on the afternoon, and Yasmeen Ajdari stopped one shot.

CUA moves back into Landmark Conference play this weekend, making the short trip north to face Goucher on Saturday afternoon. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
