Box Score HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Cardinals closed out their Landmark
Conference series at Juniata with a 7-4 win on Saturday afternoon.
CUA scored two runs in the 1st and then pulled away with five more
in the 3rd to improve to 17-8 overall and 6-3 in the Landmark.
The Cardinals jumped out in front with two runs in the top of the
1st. After Dan Hinchcliff was hit by a pitch and stole second,
Charlie Dillon singled, and a Juniata error allowed both runners to
come all the way around.
Hinchcliff got CUA going in the 3rd when he led off with an
infield single. Dillon followed with another single, and Hinchcliff
moved over to third. Mark Kalokitis was then hit by a pitch,
loading the bases.
After the next two batters were retired, Chris McCloud singled to
bring in two runs and give CUA a 4-0 advantage. Marc Hanna then
delivered a two-run triple and the lead was six.
Stefan Poggioli got into the act with a RBI single to right,
bringing in Hanna and giving the Cards a seven-run cushion.
Juniata got on the board for the first time with a single run in
its half of the 3rd, and the Eagles added another run in the 5th to
make it 7-2.
In the 7th, Hanna ripped a two-out double and Poggioli reached on
an infield single, putting runners on the corners. Brendan Breslin
pinch hit for Nick Scali, but he grounded into a fielder's
choice, ending the threat.
The Eagles scored once in the 7th and were threatening to add more
with the bases loaded and two outs, before Rob Steinkopf got Jimmy
Szamski to fly out.
Juniata continued to hang around, bringing in another run in the
8th on Chris Sinisi's double, to close within three.
Chris Nee worked a scoreless 9th for CUA though, and picked up his
sixth save of the season in the process.
Colin Kelly improved to 4-1 on the hill for the Cards after he
threw four innings of one-run baseball, while Josh Martin went 2.2
innings in relief.
Juniata starter Mario DeYulis was dealt the loss after he
surrendered seven runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of action.
