CUA rolls past No. 24 Johns Hopkins 13-6 for fifth straight win

Box Score

BALTIMORE, Md. – CUA handed No. 24 Johns Hopkins (5-1) its first loss of the season on Monday, rolling past the Blue Jays 13-6. The Cardinals (10-2) plated eight runs in the 3rd and cruised from there to earn their fifth straight win. Five CUA players finished with multiple hits, led by Brendan Breslin's three.

Johns Hopkins actually led in this one, scoring once in the 1st, but CUA came right back with three runs in the 2nd.

Nick Clary hit a solo shot to get CUA on the board, while Wes Stonelake and Nick Scali came across on Blue Jay errors to give the Cardinals a two-run lead.

Breslin got things going in the 3rd with a single, and a walk to Marc Hanna and Mark Kalokitis being hit by a pitch then loaded the bases.

An error brought home CUA's fourth run, and Stonelake drove in Hanna with a one-out single for the fifth.

Scali walked with the bases loaded to force in another run and Dan Hinchcliff brought home everyone with a triple to right.

Now leading 9-1, Pat DeToro singled in Hinchcliff, and after Breslin's single was misplayed in the outfield, DeToro came all the way around to make it 11-1.

The Blue Jays scored their second run in the bottom of the 3rd, but CUA countered with a single run in the 5th, which came on Breslin's RBI single.

The lead reached 11 when Stonlake brought in Kalokitis with a RBI ground out in the 6th and CUA was well on its way.

JHU was able to push four runs across late in the game, but it was too-little, too-late by that point.

Robin Mowatt earned the win on the mound, throwing six innings of two-run ball. The junior struck out four and walked only one.

Colin Kelly worked the 7th and 8th, while Josh Martin finished things off in the 9th.

Jared Frydman took the loss for Johns Hopkins, after allowing six runs in two innings of work. Four Blue Jay relievers followed him.

CUA is back in action on Wednesday afternoon when the Cards play host to Mary Washington. Start time is slated for 3:30 p.m. CUA defeated the Eagles in the season opener.
