Catholic Drops ODAC Game, Falling to Washington & Lee 14-10

WASHINGTON – CUA's uncommonly low rushing game leads to a 14-10 loss to Washington & Lee on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va., at Wilson Field.

With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 4-4 overall and 1-4 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, as W&L advances to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

CUA dominated the passing game with 243 yards in the air on 29 completions, 50 attempts and two interceptions.  TJ Tutone threw 138 yards and a long 44 yards to Tanner Keefe, who scored a lead changing touchdown at the 7:11 mark of the third quarter (10-7).  W&L held CUA to a season-low 39 rushing yards.

The Generals regained the lead in the fourth quarter on an unanswered 80-yard run touchdown by Marshall Hollerith.

Statistically, CUA concluded the contest with 19 first downs, 39 rushing yards, 243 passing yards and two fumbles in 25:37 of possession.

Nick Cortese led the rushing game with 20 yards, as Andrew Ouellette caught 10 passes for 74 yards and a long 13 yards.  Defensively, Jeremy Shiner, Conor Stueckler and R.J. Allison each registered 9.5 tackles.  Shiner tallied nine tackles on his own, Stueckler finished with eight tackles on his own and Allison totaled seven tackles on his own.  Vinny Caniglia sacked W&L's Charlie Nelson for 14 yards.

The Washington & Lee offensive effort was led by Hollerith, who finished with 184 rushing yards and his game winning touchdown.  Moore Harris and Luke Terna combined for 15 receiving yards with 9 yards and 6 yards, respectively.  Nelson completed two passes on seven attempts with two interceptions for nine yards.

The Cards return to Cardinal Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 12 p.m. to host Guilford.  CUA will honor its senior class prior to the contest.
