FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – CUA outshot Mary Washington 14-5, including a 10-3 mark in the second half, but the Cardinals were unable to put any goals on the board and ultimately fell to the Eagles 2-0.  Mary Washington scored on a penalty kick early in the second half and added an insurance goal in the final minute.

Just over a minute into the match, CUA's Ellen Jansen took the first shot of the afternoon, but Mary Washington goalkeeper Charlotte Owens stopped her attempt.

Around the 11-minute mark, Kirsten Wosleger got a shot off for CUA, but it sailed wide.

Courtney Orgill took the Cardinals' final shot of the half at the 38:43 mark, but it was off the mark.

CUA's defense played a strong opening half, limiting Mary Washington to just two shots.

Less than three minutes into the second half, Mary Washington's Adrian Newcomb was awarded a penalty kick and she delivered, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Over the course of the next ten minutes, CUA was able to get off four shots, but two were saved and the others were off the mark.

At the 70-minute mark, Wosleger looked for the equalizer with a header, but Owens made the save for Mary Washington.

Wosleger tried again at the 71:39 mark, but this time her attempt was high.

CUA made one final push in the last five minutes, receiving two shots from Caroline Hopkins and one apiece from Kaylre Greaves and Kelly Henderson, but none were able to find their way into the back of the net.

Jessica Bednarik then sealed the win for the Eagles with a goal in the final minute of play.

CUA finished with a 14-5 advantage in shots and a 2-1 lead in corner kicks.  Freshman Lexi Halperin stopped two shots in goal for the Cardinals, while Owens sent back seven shots for the home team.

CUA closes out its weekend with a 12:30 p.m. match vs. Rowan on Sunday afternoon.  The match will take place on the campus of Mary Washington.
