WASHINGTON – The Cardinals fell to St. Mary's 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon.  CUA out shot the Seahawks 19-15, but just couldn't put one into the back of the net.  Yvonne Latour netted the game-winner for the visitors in the 61st minute to help St. Mary's improve to 4-3-1.

After being out shot 11-4 in the opening 45 minutes, CUA came out much more aggressive after halftime, and out shot the Seahawks 15-4 in the second half.  The Cardinals finished with two corner kicks on the day, while St. Mary's was awarded five.

Midway through the first half, St. Mary's was able to get off four consecutive shots, but CUA's Lexi Halperin was there for the save on each attempt, keeping the match scoreless.

Maddy Thompson got off a shot at the 34:21 mark for CUA, as she looked to get the Cardinals on the board, but Kelsey Wirtz made the stop.

Another shot by Latour, this one coming with 11 minutes to play before the half, was stopped by Halperin, as the freshman keeper recorded her sixth save of the day.

A header by Tricia Colucci late in the half went wide for CUA, while Halperin came up with two more saves in the final five minutes to send the teams into halftime knotted at zero.

CUA did not hold back in the second half, getting off three shots in the opening four minutes.  Wirtz was there to make each save, but the Cardinals kept the pressure on.

A shot by Jackie Jones came at the 54:34 mark for CUA, but once again Wirtz made the stop.

At the 60:12 mark, Latour was able to weave her way through two Cardinal defenders and then get off a shot that beat Halperin for the day's lone score.

The Cardinals continued to look for the equalizer, getting off three shots in a row near the 69-minute mark, but two were blocked and the other was saved.

A shot by Lauren Cadott with 18 minutes remaining sailed high, while another Cadott attempt, this one with 14 minutes to play, was wide.

CUA kept coming at the Seahawks, but was unable to get the tying goal.

Halperin finished with 10 saves for CUA, while Wirtz did the same for the visitors.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome conference foe Susquehanna to town.  Start time is set for 1 p.m.
