Box Score SALISBURY, Md. – No. 11 CUA fell to 0-2 following a 17-7
loss at No. 6 Salisbury (2-0) on Saturday. Mary Swarthout
scored six times for the Cardinals, but the Sea Gulls unleashed a
14-1 run spanning the middle of the first half until the middle of
the second to claim the win.
Mary Robinson started things off with a CUA goal a little over a
minute in, but Amanda Holsclaw answered with a score at the 27:41
mark to tie things at one.
Swarthout then netted back-to-back goals in less than two minutes
to give the Cardinals a 3-1 advantage, but the Sea Gulls wound up
scoring the final seven goals of the half to take an 8-3 lead into
the break.
Katie Bollhorst, Lauren Feusahrens, Alyssa Fowler, and Allie
Wheatley scored during the Salisbury run.
The Sea Gulls began the second half with two more scores to
increase their lead to seven, before Swarthout ended the run with
her third goal at the 25:22 mark.
Salisbury responded with a 5-0 run that spanned nearly 10 minutes
and that made the score 15-4.
Swarthout again was the one to stop the run for CUA, netting
number four with 13:45 left to play.
Back-to-back Sea Gulls goals then made it an 11-point spread,
before Swarthout scored the game's final two goals.
Salisbury finished with a 35-22 lead in shots and a 22-12
advantage in ground balls. The Cardinals won 16 of the 26
draw controls, but they were only 4 of 13 in clear attempts.
Swarthout led the Cardinals with nine draw controls, while Meghan
Brady was the team leader in caused turnovers and ground balls with
three.
Feusahrens led the way offensively for the Sea Gulls with four
goals, while Ashton Wheatley stopped nine shots in goal.
The Cardinals now head to South Carolina where they will play two
games on Tuesday beginning with a 10 a.m. matchup vs.
SUNY-IT. At 2 p.m., CUA will tangle with Misericordia.
