Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – After falling behind Ursinus 3-1 on
Tuesday, CUA battled back to pull within 3-2, but that was as close
as the Cardinals would get. Rebecca Lukaszczyk and Colleen
Harwood scored for CUA, who falls to 9-7 following the setback.
Ursinus wasted little time in getting on the board, jumping out to
a 1-0 lead on Samantha Macchio's goal just 3:18 into the
contest.
CUA had its fair share of chances throughout the opening half to
pull even, taking 10 shots, to only five by the Bears.
With less than a minute to go before halftime, Lukaszczyk knocked
in a rebound to knot things at one as the teams retired for
intermission.
Much like they began the first half, the Bears didn't need
much time to get on the board in the second, going in front 2-1 on
Catherine Bitterly's score at the 41:26 mark.
Bitterly struck again three minutes later when she blasted a shot
into the back of the cage from the right side of the circle to put
the home team in front by two.
The Cardinals were awarded a penalty corner at the 49:09 mark,
which led to a shot from Taylor Elliott, but Ursinus' Katie
McEwen was there to make a defensive save.
CUA continued to try and inch closer, with Katie Welsh delivering
a shot at the 61:49 mark, but it went high.
At the 66:33 mark, the Cardinals cut the deficit to just one when
Harwood knocked in a goal to make it 3-2.
That proved to be the final shot of the day for either squad
though, and CUA was dealt another tough loss.
The Cardinals finished with a 21-11 advantage in shots and a slim
7-6 lead in penalty corners.
Megan Comunale stopped three shots in goal for the Cards, while
Ursinus' Danielle DeSpirito made six saves.
On Friday, CUA will host Drew at 4:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
Should the Cardinals win, and Scranton should lose to Juniata, CUA
will earn the top seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference
Tournament, which begins on Wednesday, October 31.
