Box Score WASHINGTON – No. 11 CUA scored four goals in each half en
route to an impressive 8-0 win over Gettysburg on Tuesday inside
Cardinal Stadium. Tracey Scanlon scored three goals to lead
the Cardinals, while Katie Bertrand, Maura Campbell, Kim Hermann,
Colleen Harwood and Mary Swarthout each scored once.
The Cardinals dominated the action right from the start, taking
the game's first ten shots, including two that found the back
of the cage.
Swarthout got the scoring started with a goal at the 10:01 mark
off an assist from Rebecca Lukaszczyk and a little over two minutes
later Scanlon netted her first goal when she fired in a shot off a
rebound.
Gettysburg quickly took a timeout and tried to re-group, but
CUA's defense was more than up to the challenge of stopping
the feisty Bullets. In a span of seven minutes Megan
Communale stopped four shots to preserve the Cardinals 2-0 lead and
at the 21:20 mark Harwood took a feed from Swarthout and made it a
3-0 game.
CUA kept the pressure on with seven shots in six minutes,
including one from Scanlon that found its way into the cage for a
4-0 advantage.
The Cardinals wasted little time adding to their lead in the
second, with Campbell scoring off an assist from Hermann just 2:58
into the half. Less than a minute later Scanlon completed her
hat trick by scoring off a rebound to make it a 6-0 contest.
Hermann's goal with 40:36 gone made it 7-0 and Bertrand
closed out the scoring for CUA when she took a pass from Campbell
off a corner and blasted it into the cage for the final 8-0
tally.
CUA held a 33-16 advantage in shots, including a 20-4 margin in
the first 35 minutes. Gettysburg was awarded 15 corners to
CUA's 10, while in goal for the Cardinals Communale sent back
three shots and Alison Dillard stopped five.
Gettysburg's starting keeper Megan Feeg stopped ten shots
and Alexis Barlow sent back seven in her 35 minutes of action.
CUA will return to the field on Saturday afternoon when the
Cardinals travel to New Jersey to face the nation's
tenth-ranked team, Rowan. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
