Cardinals Record First Win of the Season On the Road at Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – The Catholic field hockey team traveled to Randolph-Macon seeking their first win of the new season and came back to the District with that, defeating the Yellow Jackets 1-0.

Both squads battled back and forth during the first half after a delayed start due to weather. The Cardinals put on early pressure in the first quarter with five shots and earning a corner, but were unable to convert. Catholic started the second quarter with two corners, continuously forcing the Randolph-Macon defense to put in work.

An early third quarter goal was all the Cardinals needed to pull ahead and achieve their first win of the 2026 campaign. In the second minute of the half, Molly Romano intercepted a pass near the 25 yard line and found her teammate Katie Flynn ahead. The junior dribbled around her defenders and pulled the goalie out of the goal. With space now on the right side, Flynn sent the ball into the boards for a Catholic goal.

Despite only scoring one goal, Catholic had a strong offensive presence outshooting its opponent 14-7. Of those shots, 6-1 were on goal. Flynn and Caroline Cristella each recorded four shots in today's matchup. Annalise Kubasko and Sophia Sullivan were the other two Cardinals to log shots on goal.

Camryn Lowman once again suited up in goal for the Cardinals. With today's 1-0 win, the sophomore earned her first career shutout and first career win. Lowman tallied one save in today's win.

Katie Flynn now sits at five career goals after co-leading the team with four goals last season. This also marks the junior's first game winning goal.

Next, Catholic will return to its home turf to take on Bridgewater (Va.) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9th.
