TOWSON, Md. – CUA remained unbeaten on the road and in the Landmark Conference with an 18-8 win at Goucher (5-6) on Saturday afternoon.  The Cardinals (8-2) scored nine goals in each half and received goals from seven different players in winning their third straight overall.

CUA jumped all over the Gophers, racing out to a 4-0 lead in the game's first 8:56.  Lindsay Davenport and Katie Buonpastore scored once during the run and Kelly Ryan found the back of the net twice.

Erin Reifsnyder got Goucher on the board with a goal with 20:48 left to play in the opening half, but CUA ripped off four straight to take an 8-1 lead with 16:19 remaining before halftime.

Chelsea Gleason and Sarah Lindell netted goals during the 4-0 run and this time it was Mary Swarthout who scored twice.

A pair of goals by Hannah Khin and one by Colleen Cole cut CUA's lead to 8-4, but Davenport closed out the first half with her second score, which came with 3:33 on the clock.

The Cardinals then put this one away with the first six goals of the second half to go in front 15-4 with 20:09 on the clock.  Davenport scored the first two goals, Buonpastore the next two and Swarthout the final two, with Kate Robinson assisting on three of the scores.

The Gophers countered with four straight goals of their own to make it 15-8 with 7:20 left to play but CUA simply had too much on this day, closing the game out on a 3-0 run for the final ten-goal margin.

Buonpastore scored one of the goals and Robinson two to give CUA its eighth win of 2011.

Swarthout, Davenport and Buonpastore finished with four goals apiece and Robinson handed out three assists for the winners.

The Cardinals were credited with 36 shots, compared to 29 for Goucher, but the Gophers did scoop up two more ground balls than CUA (20-18).  The Cardinals dominated the draw all afternoon, winning 21 out of 28 and CUA scored three of its goals by way of free position shots.

Four different Cardinals picked up three GBs and four Cardinals caused one turnover.  Robinson was the team leader in draw controls with five and Swarthout won four.  Gabby Sena had a strong day in goal, stopping 15 shots, including nine in the second half.

On Tuesday CUA faces a tough test on the road, when the Cardinals travel to take on Gettysburg in a 6 p.m. contest.  The game is a make-up of the one that was canceled on March 23.  In that game the teams were tied at five and minutes away from beginning the second half when lightning struck, forcing the cancellation.  The teams must start the game from the beginning because they did not meet the minimum time requirement.
