WASHINGTON – CUA had its hands full with the nation's No. 1 ranked team on Sunday falling to Salisbury 20-8 inside Cardinal Stadium.  The Sea Gulls led 13-4 at halftime and added seven more in the second to improve to 4-0, while the Cardinals fall to 1-1 following the setback.  Lindsay Davenport led CUA with three scores on the day.

Salisbury struck first when Trish DiGirolomo found the back of the net 4:08 into the contest to put the visitors on top 1-0.  Davenport answered for the Cardinals ten seconds later with her first score from Mary Swarthout's assist.

Allie Wheatley and Alyssa Fowler netted back-to-back goals for Salisbury to put the Sea Gulls up 3-1, but Kate Robinson responded with an unassisted score for CUA to make it a 3-2 game.

Following a Salisbury goal Robinson scored on a free position shot and CUA was back within one, 4-3.  The Sea Gulls responded with two straight goals though and went in front by three.

Meghan Brady got into the act for CUA with a goal at the 17:11 mark, which brought the Cardinals within two, but Salisbury reeled off seven goals in the final 16:02 of the half to take a commanding 13-4 lead into halftime.

Davenport and Mary Robinson netted back-to-back scores in the first 1:30 of the second half and CUA had life as it trailed 13-6.  The Sea Gulls once again had an answer though with five straight goals to go in front 18-6 with 13:11 left in the game.

Davenport and Mallory Vogel scored the game's next two goals to make it 18-8, but Salisbury scored two more times to put the final margin at 12.

The Sea Gulls outshot the Cardinals 33-18 on the day and held a 21-16 advantage in ground balls.  Davenport led CUA with four GBs and Sarah Lindell was the team leader in caused turnovers with two.

Gabby Sena played the entire 60 minutes in goal for the Cardinals and stopped six shots during that time. 

Aileen McCausland and Carrie Bray finished with three goals apiece for Salisbury and DiGirolomo handed out eight assists. Julie Ann Caulfield stopped eight shots in goal and also scooped up five ground balls.

The Cardinals will be back in action on March 13 when they travel to Dickinson for a 12 p.m. contest.
