WASHINGTON – Behind a potent offense and stifling defense, CUA rolled past Goucher 10-0 on Wednesday evening inside Cardinal Stadium.  Freshman Colleen Harwood was the top offensive performer for the Cardinals with four goals, while Katie Bertrand and Tracey Scanlon added two scores apiece.

The game was scoreless for the first 18 minutes as the teams looked to establish a rhythm on offense.  That changed at the 18:24 mark though, when Harwood put CUA on the board with her first goal of the night off a Mary Swarthout assist.

Two minutes later Scanlon made it 2-0 Cardinals when she found the back of the cage for her sixth goal of the year.

With just over 22 minutes gone, CUA's Rebecca Lukaszczyk unleashed three shots in a span of 20 seconds, but two were saved and the other went wide.  One minute later Harwood would not be denied when Scanlon fed her for goal number-two on the night and CUA was in front 3-0.

The shots kept coming for CUA, four in under a minute around the 30-minute mark, and with 31:56 gone, Harwood was awarded a penalty stroke, which she deposited into the back of the cage for a 4-0 Cardinals advantage.

Just seconds after play resumed, Harwood scored again, her fourth of the night, to put CUA comfortably in front 5-0, which is how it remained at halftime.

The scoring did not slow down for CUA in the second half, with Bertrand getting the Cardinals lead up to six at the 41:35 mark.  Swarthout once again assisted on the score.

Bertrand then made it 7-0 at the 50:10 mark and four minutes later Scanlon put CUA in front by eight with her second goal of the evening.

Swarthout scored on a penalty stroke at the 58:55 mark to make it a nine-goal advantage, and Kaitlin Maloy closed out the night with her first goal of the season at the 63:49 mark to put the final margin at 10.

CUA was credited with an incredible 42 shots for the game, while the Cardinals defense held Goucher in check all night long, limiting the Gophers to a single attempt.

The Cardinals were awarded 25 penalty corners to only one for Goucher, and in goal Alison Dillard sent back one shot for the home team, while Micki Manheimer stopped 20 shots for Goucher.

CUA is now off for the rest of the week before returning to action on Monday, October 10 when the Cardinals hit the road to face St. Mary's.  Game time is set for 2 p.m.
