CUA Drops Final Game in Susquehanna Series
Cards fall to 4-5 in Landmark play
4/6/2008
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Catholic University of America baseball
team (12-11, 4-5 Landmark) lost its final game of its Landmark
Conference series with the Susquehanna Crusaders (13-11, 8-3
Landmark) Sunday.  CUA started strong but failed to score
after the first inning until a ninth-inning rally that couldn't
quite overtake the Crusaders falling 6-4.
Joe Maca (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Saint Dominic) crossed the plate in
the first inning on an unearned run to make the score 1-0.
Unfortunately, that would be the last of the Cardinal scoring for a
while as they went cold at the plate.  The Crusaders, on the
other hand, staged a three-run rally in the bottom of the inning to
take the lead.  In the third, a double added one more and
finally in the seventh SU hit a homer to make it 6-1.
The top of the ninth was CUA's final opportunity which started
out well after a three-run Joe Devine (Medford Lakes, N.J./Shawnee)
homer making the deficit just two.  With the bases loaded the
Cardinals looked to be in solid shape but ran out of chances with
the final out coming off of strikeout making the final 6-4.
Matthew Rosner (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) was the lone
Cardinal with multiple hits going 2-5 while Devine led with three
RBI.  The Cards were out hit 12-8 and each team committed two
errors.  On the mound, Kevin Sweeney (Bethesda/St. Anselm's
Abbey School) took the loss with six strikeouts.
CUA will have a few days off before hosting Shenandoah at 3:30
p.m., on Wednesday.
