CUA's Early Runs Prove Too
Much for Yellow Jackets
Goodman hits two-run double

WASHINGTON -The Catholic University baseball team held on to a
5-4 lead despite some tough defensive situations Tuesday afternoon
as they came out on top of the Randolph-Macon College Yellow
Jackets (19-13) 5-4.  More than once, the Cardinals allowed
runners in scoring position but nearly every time they came away
unscathed.  CUA is now 16-12-1 on the season.
A quick three and out in the top of the first allowed the
Cardinal bats to get going immediately.  Mike Goodman
(Brookville, Md./Sherwood)  hit a long double down the right
field line to drive in two runs and Robbie O'Brien's (Columbia,
Md./Long Reach) single to left center allowed Goodman to come home
making it 3-0.
In the top of the fourth RMC homered to left field to cut the
deficit to one. In the bottom of the inning the Cards executed a
perfect pick off play to bring in one more run making it 4-2. The
Cardinal defense got into some trouble with the bases loaded and
two outs, after a pitching change and a walked in run one another
CUA pitcher came to the mound.  On the final batter of the
inning he hit it to right field and O'Brien made a diving catch to
get out of the jam.  Tommy Bowles (Davidsonville, Md./Mount
Saint Joe) hit one to the shortstop that took a tough hop in the
bottom of the fifth to bring one more Cardinal across the
plate.
The top of the eighth saw one more Yellow Jacket come home as
RMC once again threatened to take the lead.  With bases
loaded, Michael Bzozowski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) came in and
pitched to a 1-3 putout to end the inning.  This was the third
time in six games Bzozowski has had bases loaded and come away with
no runs scored.  The defense did quick work of the Yellow
Jackets in their final at bat resulting in a 5-4 final.
Goodman was 2-4 on the day with two RBI and one run scored.
Matthew Rosner (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) also led
CUA at the plate with a 2-3 performance and one run scored. Both
squads had nine hits in the game and the Yellow Jackets committed
one error.  Brendan McGowan (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding)
took the win on the mound pitching two innings, while Bzozowski was
credited with the save.
The Cardinals will travel to Moravian College this weekend for a
Landmark Conference three-game series.
