Owens, Winter, Olarewaju, and DuPree Finish First in Relay Securing Team Third Place Finish at Landmark Championships

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Catholic men's track and field team looked to peak at the Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday. The men finished third overall with a total of 116.33 points. Susquehanna finished first with 191.33 points and Moravian chalked up 173 in second.

In the High Jump, Drew Madden and Quinn Brubaker took first and second, respectively. Madden took the gold with a mark of 1.90m while Brubaker recorded his personal best mark of 1.87m to earn the silver. Madden moves up the program record books and becomes tied for fourth all time in the event. Brubaker also moves up the ranks, to fifth from sixth.

Michael Brunet had a career day, recording a personal best and breaking the meet record in the mile, clocking a time of 4:17.56 to capture first place. Brunet's stellar time places him as the seventh best performer of all time in the Catholic record books. Tim Sweeney placed seventh in the mile, earning two points for the team, with a time of 4:36.70. A handful of other Cardinals also competed in the mile: Shane Waring (4:45.99), David Stango (4:50.74), Matt Haugh (4:51.71) and Tim Brown (4:53.89). 

Brunet also earned himself a podium finish in the 3000m, placing third with a time of 8:46.51. Sophomore Patrick Morris recorded a personal best time of 9:18.00. Joey Locke also raced in the event and recorded a time of 9:20.77. 

Senior Nicholas Chang finished second in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 13.08m. Chang earned eight points for the Cardinals with his performance. He also moves up the record books from ninth to sixth in the event. Adrian Villatoro also collected points for the team with his fifth place finish, earning four points. The sophomore reached a season best distance of 12.46m. 

Sean Owens had a top-three finish in the 400m, taking third place in the event and recording a new personal best of 50.94. Owens' time places him as the new Catholic third best performer in the event. Emmanuel Olarewaju also competed in the event, taking sixth and recording his own personal best time of 51.08. Olarewaju enters the record books as well sitting in fourth all time.  In the same event, Marco Indelicato earned his season best with 52.29. Gabe Devaney recorded a time of 53.56. 

In the 60m finals, Calvin Hernandez placed first in 6.96, while Romell Randolph followed close behind in 7.06 to take fourth. Hernandez's preliminary time of 6.92 places him as the second fastest Cardinal to ever compete in the event, besting his previous record of 6.98, which placed him third overall. Randolph's personal best in the finals allowed him to move up the Catholic record books from sixth to now tied for the fifth best time. 

Randolph went on to secure five points for the Cardinals in the 200m, finishing fourth with a time of 22.61. 

Kendrick DuPree, Peter Winter, and Augustine Howard finished one after the other in the 800m, Dupree finishing second in 1:57.06, Winter in third with a time of 1:58.16, and Howard in fourth with a personal best of 1:58.27. Howard's best time resulted in an entry in the program record books as the ninth best performer in the event. 

The Catholic 4x400m relay took the top spot in the event with a time of 3:25.15. The team consisted of Sean Owens, Peter Winter, Emmanuel Olarewaju, and Kendrick DuPree. With this first place finish, the group earned 10 points for the Cardinals. Not only did the group place first at the meet, they also cemented themselves as the third best time in the event in the Catholic record books.

The 4x200m relay team comprising Marco Indelicato, Calvin Hernandez, Romell Randolph, and Sean Owens placed fifth with a time of 1:33.17. With this time, the team places fourth all time in the program books. 

In the 4000m distance medley, the Cardinals finished fifth overall with a new program sixth best time of 10:52.54. Brown, Olarewaju, Howard, and Stango were the Cardinal representatives.

Drew Madden qualified for the 60m hurdle finals with his time of 8.68. In the finals, Madden raced a time of 8.71. 

In the pole vault, Gabe Stypul placed seventh and collected two points for the Cardinals with a height of 3.75m. Freshman Anthony Escuadro reached 3.15m. 

In the 5000m, the Cardinals had two athletes compete. Daniel Ponciano logged a time of 16:38.38, while Locke ran a time of 16:42.64. 

In the long jump, Brandon Hancock recorded a distance of 5.69m. Villatoro reached 5.54m in the event. 

Four athletes competed in the shot put for Catholic. James Varellas threw a distance of 11.57m, with Warren Gillis following close behind with a distance of 11.52m. Madden threw 11.35m and Benjamin Warr rounded out the group with 10.19m. 

In the weight throw, Warr reached a distance of 12.65m with his throw. Caden Lopez logged a distance of 11.57m and Mark Enamorado threw 11.10m.

With his record-setting distance performance, Michael Brunet became the Landmark Indoor Track and Field women's Rookie of the Year. This is the second straight year that Catholic has swept both the men's and women's Rookie of the Year honors.

Up next, the Cardinals will travel to Winchester, Va. to participate in the South Region Final Qualifier hosted by Shenandoah. The meet is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th. Catholic will also plan to send some of its athletes to the Tufts National Qualifying Meet on Saturday, March 7th in Medford, Mass.
