Inglis, Byrnes Race to Championships; Cardinals Place Second at Landmark Championships

| By:
SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Catholic women's track & field took second place at the Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships while Kate Inglis and Brigid Byrnes added individual championships to their resumes on Sunday.

Moravian took the title with 172.5 points while Catholic edged Scranton for second with 139.5 points.

Inglis, already the Landmark Conference record holder in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:49.69, outraced Samantha Hoffman to set a Landmark Championship record with a time of 10:54.34. Inglis won the event while breaking the previous championship record time by more than 14 seconds. Inglis' victory made it a family sweep as her brother Will won the men's event for Elizabethtown.

Byrnes led a medal sweep of the 400 hurdles for Catholic, breaking the championship and conference record with a time of 1:01.90 to move into the top-10 nationally. Byrnes was one of four athletes to break the championship record as she was also joined by Mia McConnell and Clare Marsh. McConnell finished second with a PR time of 1:02.95, the third-fastest in program history while Marsh finished in 1:02.96.

Both Catholic relays took silver at the championships, starting with the 4x100 group of Erin Buckley, Sarah Schumacher, Kortney Clipper, and Felicity Giampietro who crossed the finish line in 48.07 to break the program record they recently set at the Penn Relays (48.68).

The 4x400 group of McConnell, Byrnes, Zoey Brown, and Marsh finished off the event with a second-place finish, once again breaking the program record with a time of 3:52.75. Catholic was one of three teams to break the championship record on Sunday.

Emily Moehringer joined the laundry list of record breakers this weekend, chasing down a 43-year-old record in the 800 set by Carolyn Hughes in 1982. Moehringer finished third in the 800 with a time of 2:09.89, moving into the top-15 nationally at the time of publication.

Laurel McMahon earned her second medal of the weekend, taking third in the 5,000 with a time of 18:29.48. Catholic went three-four-five in the event with Inglis (18:43.91) and Georgia Nussey (18:50.01) finishing next.

Edith Tomasek had a career day on Sunday, setting PRs and moving up on the Catholic performance lists in the triple jump, high jump, and 100 hurdles. Tomasek broke the program record in the triple jump, finishing fifth with a 10.63-meter leap, besting Liz Caufield's four-year old record of 10.37 meters. Tomasek moved into ninth in Catholic history in the high jump, finishing seventh with a 1.48-meter jump.
