LANDOVER, Md. – The Catholic women's indoor track & field team opened its 2025 slate by hosting the Cardinal Classic inside the PG Sports & Learning Complex on Saturday. The Cardinals set a new program record and had eight individuals move up on the program's top-10 performance list or improve their standing.
Madi Fuerst headlined the meet with a record-breaking performance in the pole vault. The rookie has competed in two collegiate meets and has broke the pole vault program record both times. Today, she bested her previous personal best of 3.15m to set a new program record of 3.35m. Fuerst's efforts earned her third place and the 34th spot in alll of Division III.
Other notable field performances included
Ciara Donegan recording a mark of 13.25m to in the weight throw to place sixth and move into fifth on the performance list.
Kate Quashne also made it onto the performance list (10th) after recording a 9.40m mark in the triple jump.
Alicia Vo joined Quashne in the triple jump and placed 10th with a 10.00m mark, just .08 meters off her personal record.Â
The Cardinals started the track events strong with three top-25 finishes in the 60-meter dash. After several false starts by her competitors,
Clare Marsh rallied to placed 17th in the event and recorded the third fastest time in program history with an 8.18.
Megan Burns finished right on her heels, clocking a 8.22 to finish .05 seconds shy of her personal record.
Catherine Egan rounded out the trio wih a time of 8.31 to place 21st and move into a tie for ninth on the all-time performance list.
Brigid Byrnes put on an impressive performance in the 60-meter hurdles. After finishing sixth in the prelims with a time of 9.51, the sophomore set a new personal record of 9.42 in the finals to place third overall. Vo also competed in the event, placing 12th in the prelims with a time of 10.07 to move up to ninth on the performance list.Â
Kate Inglis ran the best indoor mile of her career, clocking a new personal record of 5:09.14 to place fifth and rank among the top 25 in Division III. Inglis also had a strong showing in the 3000-meter race as she came from behind to claim second with a time of 10:26.95.
Georgia Nussey placed in the top-10 in the distance event as well, picking up ninth with a time of 10:55.76.
Marsh returned to the track for a third place finish in the 400-meter dash. She clocked a 1:00.48 to narrowly miss her personal record time of 59.47.Â
Emily Moehringer joined two other Lanmark Conference athletes in a sweep of the 800-meter race. Goucher earned the top spot, Elizabethtown took second, and Moehringer came in third with a time of 2:16.42.
In the 200-meter dash,
Zoey Brown and
Mia McConnell both broke onto the all-time performance list with top-25 finishes. Brown became the eighth fastest runner in the event with a 27.41 while McConnell became the 10th with a 27.61.
Catholic rounded out the day with a third place finish in the 4x400 relay. McConnell,
Alexa Grassi, Moehringer, and Marsh teammed up to run a 4:07.87 and rank third on the performance list.Â
The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Franklin & Marshall for the Coach I Invitational.Â
