Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic men's lacrosse won its third straight contest on Saturday, defeating Juniata 23-1 to improve to 3-0 in Landmark Conference play. The Cardinals held the Eagles scoreless for more than 56 minutes during the game. Juniata's one goal is the least allowed by Catholic since Feb. 16, 2013's 9-1 win over Hood.
Connor Pierce led a group of 16 different goal scorers for Catholic with four goals while Victor Rosado added three goals and two assists. Ryan Macksoud and Cooper DiCicco won 23-of-28 faceoffs for Catholic and the Cardinals held a 30 ground ball advantage over the Eagles.
The Cardinals scored 49 seconds into the game and put home four goals in the first 4:19 of the contest to jump out ahead. Luke D'Ambrogi scored an unassisted goal to open the scoring and also scored the fourth goal of the game at the 10:41 mark. Pierce and Rosado scored goals two and three for Catholic with Pierce's goal coming on a Kevin Ortlieb assist.
Collin Stein made it 5-0 Catholic with 8:56 to play in the first. Just over eight minutes later, Matt Shandley's first of the day gave the Cardinals a 6-0 lead before Mike Mulligan scored the final goal of the period with six ticks left on the clock to make it 7-0.
The Cardinals topped their seven-goal quarter by putting eight into the back of the net in the second quarter, pushing the Catholic lead to 15-0 at halftime. Pierce scored three goals in the quarter while Rosado had two goals and two assists. Fitz McLaughlin got on the board in the second to make it 9-0 while Brendan Falatko and Ortlieb also scored in the period.
Catholic scored just two goals in the third quarter to extend the lead to 17-0. Bailey Wallace (2:39) and Luke Geraghty (2:27) each scored their lone goal of the game.
Liam Hill scored a pair of goals within 16 seconds of each other early in the fourth, making it a 19-0 lead for Catholic. Danny Fitzgibbons and JoJo Pores each followed with a goal to extend the advantage to 21-0. With 6:49 left, Mason Russo scored a man-down goal for Catholic to make it 22-0. Beaux Wojchiechowski scored the lone Juniata goal with 3:31 remaining before Nolan Scott scored the final goal of the game with 3:03 left in the fourth.
Macksoud and DiCicco each had six ground balls for Catholic while Jimmy Bevevino had five for the Cardinals. Mike Tayloe added three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Nic Pezone played the first 27:51 in goal for Catholic, making two saves as it opened up a 15-0 lead. Colin McDonnell made 11 saves in 32:09 and added four ground balls for Catholic.
