WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Catholic men's tennis team played a tough match with Drew on Sunday afternoon before ultimately falling 6-3 in a Landmark Conference match.
Allan Van Nostrand, Diego Romo and Matt Rudolf all earned wins for the Cardinals in the defeat.
Romo and Rudolf held a 5-2 lead in No. 2 doubles, but ended up dropping a tight match by a score of 8-6. Henry Ogden and Ben Perks led 7-4 at No. 3 doubles before falling in a tiebreaker.
At No. 1 singles, Van Nostrand played arguably his best match of the year, winning 6-3, 6-2. Romo won 6-3, 6-3 to earn a victory at No. 3 singles. Rudolf earned the final win for Catholic at No. 4 singles, winning 7-5, 7-5. Romo trailed 3-2 early in the first but won four straight to take the 6-3 win in the first set. He took an early lead en route to a dominant set two performance. Rudolf trailed 5-4 in the second set before taking the next three games to pick up the win.
Ogden won a second set tiebreaker to extend the match but ultimately fell 4-6, 7-6, 7-10 at No. 5 singles.
The Cardinals will return to action on Tuesday when McDaniel comes to D.C.
