Cardinals Conquer Flying Dutchmen in Home Match

WASHINGTON, D.C. - After weather postponed their original meeting, the Catholic men's tennis team hosted Lebanon Valley for a perfect fall Tuesday afternoon match. The Cardinals swiftly shutout the Flying Dutchmen, winning 7-0.

In doubles matches, Ian Arenas and Lorenzo Neri faced off against Jesse Beck and Zachary Schrader in the one spot where they secured the first win for Catholic, 6-0. Flynn Hollinger and Jake Hershey took on Mason Dissinger and Zachary Elmore on court two, winning 6-1. 

Drew Andrianopoulos and Charlie Robbins battled against Ethan Luu and Kaeden Kelly in the third spot. It was a tight contest, but Andrianopoulos and Robbins regrouped, taking the match to a tiebreak where they pulled out the victory against their Dutchmen opponents and secured the doubles sweep with a score of 7-6 (7-1).

Later in the afternoon, Catholic dominated in singles play, winning in straight-sets across all six courts. Robbins secured another early point for Catholic, taking down Zachary Elmore on court five, 6-1, 6-1. 

Luke Hynes earned a third point for Catholic with a straight set victory over Ethan Luu. Hynes set the tone by shutting out Luu in set one. Luu managed to log some points in the second set, but Hynes ultimately won, 6-0, 6-2.

In the one spot, Neri won against Lebanon Valley's Schrader to earn a fourth point for the Cardinals, winning 6-4, then shutting out Schrader in set two, 6-0.

Ian Arenas, Jay Harper and Francis DeLucia secured the sweep for Catholic by winning in straight sets on courts two, six and three, respectively. Arenas took down Jesse Beck 6-2, 6-3 while Harper defeated Brayden Waiter in similar fashion, winning 6-3 in both sets.

DeLucia locked in the final point on court three with a tough battle against Mason Dissinger. DeLucia had a lead, but Dissinger remained on his tail, attempting to take the set. DeLucia held him off, winning set one 7-5. The two battled again in the second set, but DeLucia stayed solid, winning 6-3 to give Catholic their seventh point.

Up next, Catholic will host Gettysburg for its final match up of the fall 2026 season. The game is scheduled for October, 17 at 1 p.m. on the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
