Cards Drop Midweek Bout to Gophers

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University women's tennis team dropped a midweek Landmark Conference matchup to Goucher on Wednesday afternoon.

Playing its fifth match in a row at home, the Cardinals could not get over the hump in a handful of close matches.

Catholic found themselves in a hole after dropping all three doubles matches. The Cardinal duo of Aubree Narus and Paige Brightwell fought extremely hard at No. 3, battling their opponents to 5-6 before ultimately dropping the final two games.

Abbey Cassidy played extremely well on the singles court, showing mental toughness to force her match to go the distance.

After dropping the first set at love, Casssidy fought back to win the second by a break. The senior just could not complete the comeback as she fell at No. 2 singles to Ceri McCaffrey in the final frame (0-6, 6-4, 2-6).

The Cardinals ran into Goucher at the wrong time as the Gophers have now won three matches straight by scores of 9-0, 9-0 and 8-1.

Nate Farlow's team will conclude its homestand on Friday afternoon with a non-conference matchup against Stevenson before traveling to Moravian on Saturday to conclude Landmark Conference play. Catholic will have to beat Moravian and hope that other results shake out in its favor in order to secure a spot in the conference tournament that will be played next week.
