WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic women's tennis honored four graduating members on Senior Day, but fell to Scranton 7-2 on Sunday afternoon at the Dowd Family Tennis Courts.
Prior to Sunday's Landmark Conference contest, four outgoing members of the women's tennis team were honored: Brooke Simonson, Jane Krukiel, Aubree Narus, and Bridget McCabe.
Simonson and Krukiel secured the lone victories of the day for Catholic in the 7-2 effort, both winning their singles matches.
The Royals swept the doubles contests to take a 3-0 lead as Krukiel and Marissa Stambaugh fell 8-5 at No. 2 doubles and Narus and Paige Brightwell fell 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. Simonson and Abbey Cassidy fell at No. 1 doubles 8-3 to Lily Nowak and Daniella Wisniewski.
Simonson earned yet another win at No. 1 singles, defeating Nowak 7-6, 5-7, 6-4. The win marks Simonson's 65th overall win in her Catholic career. Krukiel earned her 13th overall win of the season, defeating Bridgid O'Mara 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Cassidy fought hard at No. 2 singles, taking the first set from Wisniewski before ultimately falling 6-5, 5-7, 4-6. Stambaugh battled tough at No. 5 singles, dropping the match 4-6, 3-6 to Taralyn Reilly.
Catholic hosts Juniata tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. in Washington D.C.
