WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Catholic University men's tennis team dropped a tight match to Scranton at home on Sunday afternoon.
The Cardinals came up just short in two doubles matches that ended up being the difference in the overall team scores. Catholic's No. 1 duo of Diego Romo / Matt Rudolf and No. 3 duo of Ben Perks / Nathaniel Barish both fell by a single break, 8-6.
James Earwood and Henry Ogden found success at No. 2 doubles, winning comfortably 8-2. Romo made it two wins from two attempts as he triumphed at No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Ben Annunziato worked through a tight first set that required a tiebreak before cruising in the second at No. 6 singles (7-6(4), 6-0). Rudolf won comfortably at No. 3 singles, dropping just one total game (6-0, 6-1).
The Cardinals get straight back to action tomorrow, when they welcome Juniata to the Dowd Family Tennis Courts. Opening service in the match that was originally scheduled for Saturday is set for 4 p.m.
