Box Score MADISON, N.J. — The Catholic University men's lacrosse team took advantage of a strong start to win its fifth-straight game on Saturday afternoon, securing a Landmark Conference win over Drew.
The Cardinals (6-6, 5-0 LC) scored the first seven goals of the game and did not allow a goal for the first 24 minutes of action in the emphatic victory.
Fitz McLaughlin and Victor Rosado wasted no time stamping their impact on the contest, combining to outscore Drew 4-0 in the opening stanza. McLaughlin scored three goals, all assisted by Rosado, while Rosado converted the other tally off of a feed from McLaughlin.
After McLaughlin completed his hat trick with just five seconds left in the opening quarter, goals from Connor Pierce, Connor McDonough and Luke D'Ambrogi pushed the Cardinals out to a 7-0 lead and they never looked back.
Rosado finished the game with a staggering five goals and seven assists, meaning he contributed to more goals himself than Drew scored total. McLaughlin added two more tallies to finish with five as well while Kevin Ortlieb scored a pair.
Drew had their chances in the contest, putting 33 shots on Nic Pezone's cage. The senior had a monster game, however, making 22 saves to earn his sixth win of the season.
Rosado's 12 points pushes him to a team-high 57 on the season while Pezone has now repelled 155 shots.
The Cardinals posted a slight edge at the face-off X with Cooper DiCicco going 16-for-29 and Ryan Macksoud winning 3-of-5 to put Catholic at 55.9 percent for the game. The Cardinals did well to cause the Rangers difficulties in the clear, forcing Drew into seven failed clear attempts.
Jon Sax's team will look to continue its momentum on Senior Day this upcoming weekend when they host Landmark Conference rivals Scranton at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
