SALISBURY, Md. — The Catholic University women's tennis team opened its season with a loss to Salisbury on Sunday afternoon.
Graduate student Brooke Simonson battled hard at No. 1 singles, ultimately falling just short in a third-set tiebreak. After dropping the opening set 6-3, Simonson stormed back to take the second set 6-1 before dropping the tiebreak 10-5.
Simonson teamed up with Abbey Cassidy at No. 1 doubles, putting up a good fight but dropping the match 8-4.
Marissa Stambaugh played a No. 3 singles while also combining Jane Krukiel at No. 2 doubles. Stambaugh fell 6-1, 6-2 on the singles court and 8-2 on the doubles court.
Catholic's next match will mark the beginning of the team's spring break trip. The Cardinals will play three matches over five days in Hilton Head, S.C., as part of the Spring Tennis Fest, where the squad will face Brevard on Monday, March 6 to begin the trip.
