Box Score TOWSON, Md. — The Catholic University men's basketball had four players score in double figures as it moved to 19-1 with a victory over Goucher on Wednesday night.
The Cardinals and Gophers exchanged blows early and the teams remained within touching distance when Catholic possessed a slim 26-22 lead 11 minutes into the contest. However, the Cardinals then turned on the heat, scoring 12 straight in the midst of a larger 30-4 run to open up a 30-point halftime lead.
Junior Jesse Hafemeister led the charge with 18 points and seven rebounds in the opening stanza, finishing with 23 total points and just one rebound shy of a double-double.
Tommy Kelly, Colby Martins and Jake Timby all joined Hafemeister in double figures while Brian Herbert grabbed nine rebounds and Sean Neylon pulled down eight.
Catholic used its size to its advantage, dominating both the glass and the paint. The Cardinals outrebounded the Gopher by 13 and outscored Goucher 44-26 in the painted area.
Freshman Charley Hepting provided good minutes off the bench, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field while also grabbing three boards and providing one assist.
Ontario Miller led the way for Goucher with 19 points in an impressive showing off the bench.
Seventeen players saw action for Aaron Kelly's team as it took one more step toward securing home court advantage in the Landmark Conference tournament.
Catholic remains on the road as the team goes in search of its 20th win of the campaign. The Cardinals will travel to Scranton for a 4 p.m. tip-off on Saturday.
