Box Score HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Catholic University traveled to Juniata on Wednesday night for a midweek Landmark Conference tilt and came away victorious, defeating the Eagles 59-40 to improve to 14-4 and 5-2 in conference play.
In her second game back in the starting lineup, Carly Mulvaney led the game with 15 points and eight rebounds for the Cardinals. Rachel Bussanich chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds in the contest.
Tied 7-7 just over four minutes into the contest, Catholic kicked off a 19-6 run over the final 16 minutes of the first half to lead the Eagles by 13 at the break.
Erin Thompson and Mulvaney scored back-to-back buckets with 4:59 and 4:36 to play in the first quarter to put Catholic on top 11-7. Bussanich drilled a pair of free throws at the 1:38 mark before a Juniata bucket ended the first with a score of 13-9.
Mulvaney knocked down a three with 6:23 to play in the first half off an Erin Doherty feed to put the Cardinals up 17-9. Catholic extended the lead to 10 points for the first time with 4:04 remaining in the half as Amelia Baldo got on the board off a feed from Sarah White. After a Juniata bucket, Anna Scoblick scored the final five points of the half to give the Cardinals a 26-13 halftime advantage.
Juniata opened the second half on a 10-0 run, cutting the deficit to 26-23 with 6:27 to play in quarter number three. Keegan Douglas scored her first bucket out of a Catholic timeout to end the run. Her jumper was followed up by a Mulvaney putback to push the lead back to seven.
Douglas scored four consecutive points with less than four minutes to play in the quarter to put Catholic up 34-25. With 1:57 to play in the quarter, Doherty converted an and-one to push Catholic's lead back to double digits at 39-27. Sammie McCarter hit a three with 54 seconds left in the half to give Catholic its largest lead to that point at 44-27.
A Mulvaney layup at the 7:28 mark of the fourth quarter gave the Cardinals their first 20-point lead of the contest. The Cardinals would go on to push it up to 25 with less than five minutes to go before closing out a 19-point win on the road.
Catholic held the advantage on the boards (40-32) while pulling in 11 offensive rebounds. The Cardinals forced 20 turnovers in the contest, racking up 11 steals.
Catholic will host it's Alumni Weekend this upcoming Saturday in the DuFour Center. The women lead off Saturday's conference doubleheader versus Moravian at 2 p.m.
